Giving back to those less fortunate is important throughout the year, but the holidays present the perfect opportunity to get into the giving spirit.
How do you embrace your charitable side during the holiday season? Do you sit down and chat with your child about what it means to be charitable, or are you able to volunteer at a local soup kitchen?
Maybe it's something as easy as packing up old clothing for donation...All of these things add up to really big things for those less fortunate.
I know for my family, we find lots of little ways to participate in giving back. From donations to the local GoodWill, to making shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, packing meals at Feed My Starving Children and collecting food for the food drive at our kiddos school ~ all of these little things add up to big big things!
And in that food drive at school thing ~ my daughter's first grade class recently collected the most items out of all of the grades, K through 6, and won themselves a popcorn party for giving back! She is pretty excited about this, and her little brother is equally dismayed that his kindy class didn't win the popcorn party...
There's always next time right?
Have you heard of Hormel Foods’ “On Our Way to Ending Hunger” program?
Through this program, Hormel Foods has commissioned surveys to uncover perceptions of hunger in America, hosted hunger summits that brought leaders from the public and private sectors together, and donated millions of dollars worth of product to local food banks and Feeding America. You can find out more on their corporate website.
Thanks to the generosity of the folks at Hormel Foods - One person who shares in the comments on this blog post about how they give back, will get Hormel Foods to make donation to a local food bank in their community, just in time for the holidays!
How cool is that!?!
So, all you have to do is leave a blog post comment sharing how you and yours give back during the holidays!
One comment will be chosen next Monday, December 3rd ~ and that person will be contacted to find out which community the donation from Hormel Foods will go!
Happy Holidays!

I organize two different things at work, before thanksgiving we do a food drive at the Tap. This year we collected over 300lbs of food!. We also do the Adopt a Family Program and adopt a family of 4 and are able to get everything on their list plus a gift card to the local grocery store. As the old saying goes "I get more out of this then recieving gifts!"
