Celebrating National Hot Dog Month with Hormel Foods!

Friday, July 13, 2012

We've been experiencing some CRAZY hot weather here in the Minnesota ~ Record breaking high temps, heat indexes of well over 100 degrees.

Ish!

What is a person supposed to do for meals when it's that hot for days above days upon days? There are only so many nights you can get away with feeding your family cereal for dinner!
I know I'm not turning on the over or the stove -but the grill?

Well, it's never too hot (or too cold!) to grill!

Hot dog season lasts throughout the summer, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but the dog really takes its place at center stage in July for National Hot Dog Month! Americans are expected to eat at least 7 billion hot dogs this summer, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. Ten percent of annual retail hot dog sales occur during July, which is designated as National Hot Dog Month.

Sausage consumption is on the rise with sales reaching $2 billion in 2011. The market for sausage and hot dogs has been expanding exponentially the past few years, with new varieties constantly being introduced. Hormel Foods recently added several new sausage products to their Hormel Natural Choice® line. Smoked Sausages are now available in original, turkey and beef, and Chicken Sausages in spinach asiago, apple gouda, and jalapeƱo cheddar.

Hormel Natural Choice® products are 100 percent natural and preservative free. July’s hot dog celebrations continue on July 28th, officially dubbed National Chili Dog Day!

Who doesn't love a good hot dog?

Are you brave enough to add a little spice to your dog? Hormel provides a variety of different chili flavors to add that extra spark to your dog. For that classic favorite, add Hormel® chili no beans, (which just so happens to be a game day favorite around our house!)

Something's missing...

ah...that's better! CHIPS!

or for a hot, spicy, flair try our Hormel® hot chili with beans.

Do you have any special hot dog recipes?
How do you like your hot dogs?
Ketchup? Mustard? Relish?
Chopped up and added to another old fav Mac & Cheese?

What about the infamous squid dogs? Our kids love to make them - but don't love to eat them!

It sure is hot! Grilling tastes good but I'm waiting for it to cool down a bit.
I've never heard of Squid Dogs. Hmm...I don't think my kids would eat them either.
