On our recent visit to the North Shore - we decided to try something new that we'd never had a chance to do before...
(Thanks, largely in part to the Crowd Cut deal we had that included hotel, dinner and the train ride! Hurray for amazing deals!!!)
The North Shore Scenic Railroad ~
The station itself had some cool old trains to scope out - a museum of sorts...
D had fun watching for the trains to pull into the station...
But the wait was long so he occupied his time by taking tons of photos...
including this one of his family...
Finally, the trains arrived...
It was a GORGEOUS, sunny, warm day in Duluth...and we weren't sure where to sit...
It was recommended to us we sit in the upper deck of one of the train cars...
eh...it was ok up there...a tight squeeze and zero ventilation...so it got pretty stuffy up there...
Didn't take me long to find the open air car on the end of the train...
But the boys stayed busy snapping self portraits upstairs...
And a quick one of the girls before I bolted...
The North Shore Scenic Railroad was a fun way to spend a couple of hours ~
both of the kids and I got pretty antsy on the trip though...(about 1 and a half hours long) as it was such a perfect day outside...it's hard to be committed to something that is 'indoors' even if it's a train ride along the north shore...
but for sure a fun place to stop and spend some time!

Can I say that you suck... I got that Crowd Cut deal too, only for them to not honor it, they sold too many. UGH!
But, we are heading to Duluth next weekend anyways, I'm putting the train on my list.
Anything else a must do?
WHAT? REALLY? Did you call the hotel & they said no go or did CC pull out on the deal? They were soo nice at the hotel!! (AND...dang, those hotel beds were COMFY! We were remarking how sad it is that they were more comfy than our own beds at home!)
If I had known what the weather was going to be like, I'd for SURE have done the boat excursion thingy instead...it was a glorious day for that. You can rent 1 of those giant family bikes & cruise around the lakewalk. Gooseberry Falls is totally worth the drive (40 miles or so) up the shore...I think your kids would love that...hmmm...what else...
Sounds like a lot of fun. Glad you got a great deal!
We did the train ride a couple of weeks ago and the kids were VERY bored and antsy. We weren't impressed.
