I promised I'd be back to show you our unconventional way of using it...
And finally, without further ado...
Here it is!
Yep! We put ours next to our shed! Even with the flat back on the rain barrel-we couldn't find a spot we loved for it next to the house...not to mention we had visions of it tipping over and seeping into our lower level...
So a quick trip to the hardware store for a piece of gutter and a few other inexpensive parts and we were all set up!
After googling and oogling at how people made their rainbarrels part of their landscape...
This is what we found works best for us - for now.
I'm amazed at how many people ask me what a rain barrel does or is for....
Um...really?
It's for getting FREE water for those of you that truly don't know!
It doesn't take long for this baby to fill right up...put a bucket underneath, turn the spigot and ta da! FREE (rain) water for your plants!
Click HERE to see the company I bought mine from...And while I wanted a cool looking wine barrel one - the budget said I had to stick to the more practical one - but I can definitely see us getting a 2nd one next spring & connecting the two together - yep...you can connect multiple rain barrels together so that when one fills up, instead of draining out a hose that runs out into the yard...it will overflow into another barrel!
Genius!
And makes for some happy plants too!

My in-laws have one at the cabin and LOVE it. The only problem they have had with it is when the pollen starts flying, it can stink up the water pretty bad. But they use it to water the grass and the garden they have up there. It works slick!
