Count Your Blessings...

Monday, December 7, 2009

I'd like to take a moment to introduce you to an old friend of mine - and when I say old, I don't mean OLD, I mean, we've been friends for a long long long time. Through our jr. high and high school years, college and then 'the real world', whatever THAT is!

Joanna and I have been friends for the last twenty or so years ~ I don't know of very many women who have as big a heart as Joanna ~ ever since I first met her when we were like 14 years old, she has been one of the most loyal, most giving, most fantastic people that I have ever met.

This dear friend of mine has embarked on the journey of a lifetime - a journey of unknowns really, as she spends 70 days , no, not 7, SEVENTY days, in Haiti helping those around her -
A pretty big deal in and of itself - but this gal, a gal with a family that anyone would love to be a part of, left the day before Thanksgiving and will also be spending the Christmas holiday away from her loved ones as well -

Please take a minute to visit Joanna's blog Loving One More, and if you are so inclined, drop her a word of encouragement or add her to your prayer list.

And most importantly, don't forget to count your blessings and if you can - hug a child today.
It's amazing, some of the facts about Haiti that I read while reading about our Minnesota Bloggers Get Together -
For instance, did you know...The average annual income in Haiti is just $560.00? I know I was pretty bummed we didn't get merit increases or any sort of raise last year - can you imagine trying to raise a family, or even support yourself...on such little income?
Godspeed my dear Joanna - You are changing the world.

That is just amazing - I always remembered her as a good person and friend. I recently went to a faith-based jewerly party. Alyn makes all the jewerly by herself and the proceeds support the poor in Haiti - her and her husband are in the process of building an orphanage there. Her website is www.gs2studios.com. Beautiful jewerly with a good cause.

God Bless Joanna!

Thanks for the nice comments and for sharing my story Darcie. I really appreciate it. I LOVE Alyn jewerly. I have a link to her stuff on my blog. I got to meet her and her husband before I left and we plan to spend Christmas day together at the Children's hospital. Life it s little different but every life and day is precious. God bless you all this Christmas season. I am also so excited that you are packing food at FMSC. That is what we serve the kids each day at lunch. It is truely a blessing!
